Breas ClearWay 2 Mechanical Insufflation-Exsufflation Device
Overview
The Breas ClearWay is a second-generation Mechanical Insufflation-Exsufflation (MI-E) device designed to support patients with impaired airway clearance. By alternating positive and negative pressures, it simulates a natural cough, helping to mobilize and remove mucus secretions safely and effectively. ClearWay 2 is widely used in patients with neuromuscular disorders, cystic fibrosis, and other chronic respiratory conditions across both hospital and homecare settings.
Key Benefits
- Advanced Titration with TreatRepeat® – Allows clinicians to deliver customized cycles of insufflation/exsufflation and save them as automated treatment routines.
- Enhanced Patient Synchrony –
- iTrigger® with eSync: Provides precise flow-triggered cycles.
- Synchrony Beep®: Audio cue before exsufflation, helping patients sync breathing even without visual cues.
- Versatile Therapy Modes – Operates in Manual, IPPB, Basic Automatic, Programmable, and NIV modes, adapting to individual patient needs.
- User-Friendly Interface – Intuitive touchscreen plus optional handheld remote, foot pedal, and integrated SpO₂ monitoring.
- Comprehensive Monitoring & Connectivity – Displays cough peak flow, insufflation volume, pressure, flow, SpO₂, heart rate, and therapy session data. Records can be exported via Ethernet, USB, SD card, or cloud platforms.
- Portable & Quiet – Lightweight (~3.85 kg), compact (285 × 280 × 200 mm), and low-noise (30–35 dB(A)) for comfort at home or in clinical environments.
- Customizable Therapy – Stores up to 4 individual patient profiles for rapid, consistent therapy initiation.
Clinical Use
The Breas ClearWay 2 is intended for patients with weak or ineffective cough and secretion retention due to conditions such as:
- Neuromuscular disorders (e.g., ALS, muscular dystrophy, spinal muscular atrophy)
- Cystic fibrosis
- Progressive neuromuscular diseases
- Other chronic respiratory conditions
Therapeutic Role
- Enhances cough strength and secretion clearance
- Reduces the risk of respiratory infections and complications
- Supports both acute treatment and long-term maintenance therapy
Clinical Settings
- Hospitals: Respiratory wards, ICUs, and rehabilitation units
- Homecare: Suitable for frequent or prolonged airway clearance at home
- Rehabilitation: Effective for long-term management of chronic airway conditions
